EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing) is an evidenced based approach to help heal trauma. If you or your child has experienced something scary or traumatic, if they are having flashbacks, nightmares, or if they have Post Traumatic Stress Disorder then EMDR might be the right treatment. EMDR is a treatment protocol that uses bi-lateral stimulation to help the brain clear out the distress from traumatic memories. It’s helpful for removing emotional blockages that keep a person from healing. EMDR clears out the distress caused by the trauma and replaces it with positive associations. When working with children who are traumatized, play therapy is used with EMDR to help children engage in EMDR and eventually heal from the trauma or traumas they have experienced.
